Abstract

Communication is the process of expressing ideas, feelings or providing information to others. Good communication brings harmony to the family instition. However, poor communication can have a negative impact in the household, leading to divorce. A study was conducted using qualitative design through Phenomenological Research Methods. A total of 32 informants were selected purposefully using the technique of purposeful sampling and snowball sampling to obtain study data. The data obtained through semi-structural interview protocol were analyzed using ATLAS.ti software version 23. The results showed that the lack of effective communication skills such as lack of two-way communication, not talking or expressing dissatisfaction about the problems encountered and often avoiding to discuss conflicts in the household has damaged the relationship in marriage leading to divorce. Therefore, more effective approaches such as holding educational programs to improve the quality of communication between couples and subsequently reduce communication problems and promote more harmonious relationships.
