Mechanical and Rheometric properties of waste derived Carbon Black / Natural rubber Vs. HAF Carbon Black / Natural rubber vulcanizate
Abstract
Now-a-days the market required rubbers with multifunctional properties such as strength, thermal conductivity, barrier properties, elasticity, resistance to oxidative aging and many more. In our experiment we have used two different types of carbon black, one from the waste plastic by pyrolysis method and other one is HAF carbon black (N330). Pyrolysis of waste plastic is considered to be an effective disposal method of discarded plastic material. The rubber vulcanizates were prepared through the vulcanization of compounded virgin NR, carbon black derived from waste plastics (WPCB) and various rubber additives. The physicochemical properties like crosslink density and swelling index was studied. The mechanical properties of the vulcanizates such as modulus at 50% and 100% elongation, tensile strength, elongation at break, hardness and tear strength was also evaluated. The abrasion loss of the vulcanizates was also determined. The result indicated that WPCB showed much inferior performance compared to that of the CB (N330).
